Marvelous Feast

24x26x9cm/ 737g /925 silver, brass, copper/ 2018

Design concept:

This work is inspired by the sensory experience of sampling the kiwi. While enjoying the sweet and sour taste, we can have a feast for the eyes. As we carefully observe a kiwi with furry green exteriors while slicing it, we can find that the plain-looking fruit has pulp that is as splendid as fireworks. The juicy interior part of the fruit is exhilarating and refreshing. This piece of creation aims to present viewers the sensational experience in vision and taste in the instant of slicing open a kiwi.

Metalworking technique:

Metalcraft was adopted in the process of creation, with silver, copper, and brass as the major material. The prototype was made manually by sinking and raising the copper sheet. Details in the local structure were carved out by Repousse and Chasing, Lost-wax casting, impact texturing, and other techniques. Then, the fusing texture was created by shaping the silver in the flame. There is a carefully-planned and precisely-managed procedure for brazing each section in the structure. Finally, the work was completed as color changes naturally after torch heating patination.
